I am not sure that the assessment I have in my classroom now is adequate or not. I generally give weekly tests based on the material we cover in class that assesses what I think they should have picked up during the week. The main problem I have with assessment is that I don't feel that I am constructing anything that is even close to state test rigor. I simply don't have the time to do that, and often it is hard to track down enough rigorous materials to give my students. This summer I am going to try to practice with constructing assessments that more closely resemble state test rigor. Hopefully, in my classroom next year I will have things a little more put together and I will have more time to create more rigorous assessment. I also need a way to assess beyond just weekly testing. I attempt to assess daily, but I often lack the will to grade assignments daily or to evaluate them.
I honestly wish that I could get more creative with my assessments as on the video, but I think it would be very difficult in our school to do so. I am constantly badgered to create state test style questions by consultants and others. Also, it would take a while for the students in my school to really learn how to do a creative style project in the way I would expect it to be done. Right now most student projects consist of copying and pasting wikipedia articles. In the future I would hope to update my style of assessment but only if I get my classroom together first.
